Products such as car batteries or large-sized parts cannot be shipped by all carriers or at standard rates.

  • The shop allows the creation of specific shipping methods, which can be enabled or disabled only for certain products.
  • Shipping restrictions work in such a way that you can set a particular shipping method to be unavailable for a specific group of products (for example, car batteries), or conversely, that the shipping method can only be selected if the customer is purchasing a product from a certain group. It is advisable to combine these two options.

Example of shipping for car batteries:
  • The target is to ensure that customers who are purchasing a car battery are offered a specific 'Car Battery Shipping' option in the cart, while at the same time preventing them from choosing any other standard shipping method for this purchase.
  • If no car battery is in the cart, the 'Car Battery Shipping' option should be hidden and cannot be selected by the customer.

    The solution is:
  1. Creating a new shipping method named, for example, 'Car Battery Shipping'.
  2. To set this up, you can create a product group called 'Car Batteries' and add all the batteries you want to ship with the special shipping method. Alternatively, you can use our automatically created smart group 'Car battery', which already contains them—saving you the manual work.
    • The 'Car battery' group includes car battery products as well as products whose names the e-shop has recognized as containing batteries. You can learn more in the 'Product Groups' help section.
  3. Apply a restriction to the new shipping method for the product group 'Car Batteries' or 'Car battery', with the restriction type set to "Allow only for group"
  4. To all other shipping methods, assign a restriction that prohibits their use for the 'Car Batteries' product group. This means applying the restriction type 'Disallow for selected group' to the 'Car Batteries' group.

The setup procedure is shown in the video below.
  • Using the same procedure, it is possible to create specific transport for large parts and other specific products.
  • In administration, it is now possible to set traffic restrictions to product groups and create them.
  • By combining these restrictions, you can create a transport that is only allowed when you purchase car catteries but is also prohibited for large parts. Therefore, if the customer has a large part of the car battery, shipping will not be used.
  • Traffic restrictions are also reflected in the comparator feeds (Eureka, Google Shopping). For each product, the e-shop correctly lists only the real-time transport options and prices as in the shopping cart.
